SAINTS WINTER SPORTS – report Jan. 22, 2008
by Mark Kempf, Athletic Director
High School Women's Basketball:
We continue to build and grow and get wins for both of our high school basketball teams. The girls had a barn burner of a game last Thursdays against Ventura County Christian High School. The game was a back and forth affair, with 11 different lead changes throughout the game. Hannah Rhodes had 12 points and Lindsey Luebbert had 13 points with three (3) point baskets. Ventura County had their leader Ashley Hinton lead their attack with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
The nail biter came down to the last six seconds of the ball game. Hillcrest needed to score and score quickly. Lindsay Luebbert bringing the ball up the floor finds Hannah Rhodes open. Hannah begins her drive to the basket and is fouled before the shot. We are in the bonus, so Hannah will be shooting a (one-an-one) with six seconds left in the game. She needs to hit the front end to tie, the second to win. Hannah hits both to win the game by one. Final score Hillcrest 28, Ventura 27. Hannah “Clutch” Rhodes helps Hillcrest go to a 3-11 overall record and 3-5 Omega League record. Ventura’s League record drops to 4-3. Our girls continue to fight for a possible wild card birth into the playoffs. KEEP IT UP SAINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For we are Saints born, we are Saints bred.
We’ll be Saints till the day we’re dead.
Which means:
When a task is once begun
We leave it not until it’s done.
And be a matter great or small,
Do it well or not at all.
