Students in Mrs. Seth-Hunter and Mrs. Gonzales’ second grade classes will learn the results of obedience to God during this week’s study of the Fall of Jericho. They will sequence the marching orders God gave to Israel and learn through TEAM WORK how God rewards obedience to His word. In preparation for the September 30 field trip to Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, second grade will study the journey of Lewis and Clark.

FLAT STANLEY TRAVELS AROUND THE WORLD
Second grade students recently finished the book FLAT STANLEY, by Jeff Brown, detailing the adventures of a boy named Stanley who has been flattened (unharmed) by a bulletin board. He has many great adventures, such as traveling in an envelope to visit friends in California. Students are familiar with the postal service and would like to put their postal carrier knowledge into action. They will mail their own Flat Stanleys to organizations around the world! As a class they brainstormed many places where Stanley could visit…such as the soldiers in Iraq and even the President of the United States.
If you know any organizations that would be interested in participating in this project, please contact the teacher. We request that they be secure organizations only, such as schools, hospitals, etc., not individuals. The classes will track the travels of Flat Stanley on a map and compile a journal of the entries from the many friends he has visited. Many students have become quite enamored with Flat Stanley and may want to continue to read his books at home. You may find the book and its many sequels by Jeff Brown at Borders Bookstore for approximately $5.00. Students have made their own Flat Stanleys in hopes of continuing this project at home. |
