Spiritual Emphasis Week in Elementary
HCS students focus on spiritual growth.

Last week students were entertained, challenged, participated in, and reflected on the importance of placing God first in their lives. On Wednesday, kindergarten through sixth graders were blessed with a concert by the "Young Continentals," stressing the importance of being committed to Jesus Christ. The gospel was shared with students; an opportunity to accept Jesus as Savior was provided. Many students raised their hands during prayer time, testifying that they had accepted the gift of salvation.

Special chapels were scheduled during the week for lower (K-3) and upper elementary (4-6). Students in Mr. Yui's sixth grade class performed in a dramatic monologue about a wealthy father who lost his son in the war as he was rescuing a fellow soldier. The father was an art collector and grieved bitterly for his son. On Easter morning, the soldier who was saved by the old man's son visited him. The soldier gave the old man a painting of his son. This painting became far more valuable than any in his priceless collection. After the old man died, an auction was held on Easter. The portrait of the old man's son was the first item to be auctioned. No one would bid on the portrait except a friend who had known the boy years before. He only had ten dollars, but no one else was interested in that painting, they were there to bid on the valuable collection. "Going once, going twice. Sold." The auctioneer then declared that the auction was over, shocking the crowd. With the pounding of the gavel, the auctioneer declared, "According to the will of the father, whoever takes the Son………..gets it all!"
