By Stephen Allen, Head of School Posted Wednesday, January 20, 2010 Help For Haiti.. HCS Suggests Some Excellent Organizations That You Could Help Head of school, Stephen Allen, suggests some ways that your family can help the relief effort in Haiti. We are all saddened by the events and the situation in Haiti. Many of the earliest support groups present in Haiti have been Christian-based groups. It is difficult to observe and not respond. Perhaps many of you have already responded through your church or other organizations. If you have not responded, but desire to, here are suggested opportunities through HCS.
Mr. Enloe’s daughter is involved with an orphanage in Port-au-Prince called Child Hope. The orphanage was relatively unscathed by the earthquake, and they’ve set up a medical center there; however, the orphanage has run out of food, medical supplies, and diesel fuel necessary for the generators. If you would like to support the orphanage, a 501(c)3 organization, check out their general website at http://www.childhope.org/. Their website specifically for donations to Haiti is http://childhope-haiti.edivvy.com/.
Because our school has had a relationship with The Children's Hunger Fund, you may want to support Haiti through this organization. Donations can be made online at http://www.chfus.org/ .
We will also take up an offering in chapel for the next three weeks; and will split the offering between the two above-referenced organizations. Teachers are allowing children to drop spare change in a jar to also be split between the two organizations.
Additionally, our 4th through 8th grade Service Club is collecting supplies over the next week to send to Haiti. Signs are posted around the school. The HCS Service Club is asking for aspirin, Tylenol, water filtration tablets, protein bars, dried fruit, hand sanitizer, and antibacterial wipes. The items are due by Thursday, January 28th. Students can bring the items to Mrs. Zimmerman’s or Mrs. Brown’s classrooms. These teachers are coordinating this effort with Calvary Community Church of Westlake Village.
There are also many other organizations reaching out to the people of Haiti. Certainly pray for the people of Haiti at this time. |
