To celebrate ten years of student travel, the Hillcrest 2008 trip will be our most adventurous and exciting trip ever. On May 21, 2008 we will begin an exciting 12 day trip to explore the mystery and majesty of the world’s largest and most populated country. Home to over 1.3 billion people, China has been, and continues to be, one of the most powerful and culturally significant countries in the world.
The Cultures of China Trip will introduce travelers to the highlights of China:
- Jet over 7,500 miles to the capital city of Beijing, crossing the international date line
- Tour the walled "Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Museum of Chinese History, Great Hall of the People, Chinese Revolution Museum, Summer Palace, boat ride on Lake Kunming, Panda Zoo, Temple of Heaven
- Walk on The Great wall, visit the Ming tombs and Chang Ling Exhibition Hall
- Fly to Xi'an as we prepare to see the magnificent tomb of First Emperor Qin with its thousands of Terra Cotta Warriors
- Another quick flight and we are off to what some consider to be the most beautiful in all of China — Guilin.
- Cruise down the graceful Li River to the market town on Yangzhou; take a tour of Reed Flute Cave and Fu Bo Hill.
- Fly from Guilin into one of China's busiest commercial cities, Guangzhou. View historical sights such as the century-old Chen Clan Family ancestral temple and Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Memorial Hall.
- Hydrofoil to Hong Kong; island tour featuring Central District, Stanley Market, Repulse Bay, and the floating community at Aberdeen
The agenda will be full of educational experiences, breathtaking sights, and plenty of time for souvenir and bargain hunting!
Each year, eligible high school students at Hillcrest are provided the unique opportunity to learn about the world first-hand. These trips combine educational and cultural studies to broaden their understanding of the world we live in. In addition to exploring historical points of interest, travelers experience what it is like to live in another country and meet people from that culture. They learn teamwork and responsibility, as well as how to handle themselves away from home.
In addition to the excellent education, these trips also provide a great opportunity for all travelers to form great friendships and create lasting memories.
