Posted Monday, September 11, 2006 YEARBOOK STAFF LIVES IT UP AT SUMMER CAMP Sophomore yearbook students take advantage of advanced training offered at Pepperdine University. From July 31st through August 4th the Hillcrest Christian School Yearbook Staff set foot on Malibu’s gorgeous Pepperdine University campus for a week filled with learning and fun at the annual Yearbook Camp hosted by Taylor Publishing. Sophomores Colby Dundas, Kandi Kendall, Brock MacPherson, Jenny Philen, Hannah Rhodes, and Ellie Rossi worked tirelessly on building their skills in several artistic and technical areas. The students completed courses ranging from computer programs such as Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop, to other elements like organizing and planning a yearbook, photography, journalism, and theme development.
A week at Pepperdine could not be spent without going to the beach! Wednesday afternoon the staff rode the waves at Zuma. Other activities included a meet-and-greet ice cream social on Monday, a performance by an exotic rhythm band on Tuesday, and a savory barbecue on Thursday.
Students left camp on Friday feeling exhausted, yet satisfied with the work they achieved and the new trades they learned. They pieced together the school’s yearbook theme, collaborated with a professional artist to design an eclectic, original cover, and turned in several sample works to Taylor Publishing’s most knowledgeable and experienced instructors.
