HCS Parent, Tom Horan, Helps Parents and Kids Prepare for College Admission

For the second year, Hillcrest dad and former board member Tom Horan will participate in a series of public service programs designed to help high school students and their parents in the college selection and application process. The talks will be held at Saturday Aug 20th in San Diego, and Sunday Aug 21st in Costa Mesa. ( Click here for details) . There is no charge for the programs but registration is suggested.

While sponsored by Texas Christian University of Fort Worth, TX, the program are not a recruiting effort for TCU, but an educational forum to help students and parents in this increasingly complicated and important task. Tom has given his talks " The Right School for You" and " Unraveling the College Application Process" for several years now. They are the result of his own efforts in working with sons Tommy ( USC 2002), Patrick (Notre Dame 2006) and Kaitlin (TCU 2006). " Most people spend more time deciding what they are going to watch on TV than what college or career they will choose," reports Horan. The first talk focuses on choosing the right school, while the second provides insight and suggestions on creating a memorable and successful application.

Tom Has also been asked to present these programs at the Conejo Unified School District's College Information Night in October at Thousand Oaks High School, and will ,once again, present them to Hillcrest parents in the Fall as part of Hillcrest's own College Planning Series.
