Our entire professional staff is committed to the educational success of your children. You can also use a convenient web form to schedule your consultation: SCHEDULE NOW
After your Educational Success Consultation, you will take a tour of the school. At that time you can also schedule a day for your child to ‘shadow’ one of our students. HCS students are chosen carefully to spend the day with your child as he/she gets hands-on experience with our school.
Hillcrest exists as a ministry to Christian families. In order to apply, at least one parent must be a Christian who is committed to a local Christian church with a comparable statement of faith and attends regularly with his/her children. Prior to admissions decisions elementary and middle school students will take a skills test focusing on mathematics and reading comprehension. High school students with a transcript will be interviewed without testing.
During your consultation, Principal Kathy Horan will get to know your family, understand your goals for your children, answer questions, review school policies, and discuss the school’s role in partnering with Christian parents. An admissions committee will review all candidates for admission. Applicants will be notified of the decision of the admissions committee by mail.
Accepted students will receive an email with a link that will allow them to complete the registration process online. They will then need to meet with the registrar to make payment arrangements. Save & Exit
Hillcrest Christian School admits students of any race, color, nationality, or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. Hillcrest Christian School does not discriminate on the basis of race in administration of its educational policies, scholarship and loan programs, and other school-administered programs.
HCS Financial Policies
HCS charges an annual tuition, due in full by June 30 or at the time of registration for those enrolling later in the year. Monthly payment plans are available, but enrollment in a deferred payment plan does not imply any proration of this obligation for the full amount. For withdrawing students, fees and tuition are not refundable or prorated for any reason. For late entrants, tuition will be calculated based upon the month of entry, with our school year being defined as a 10-month year, September-June. All deferred payments must be completed by May.
Financial Aid & Discounts
At Hillcrest School, we strongly believe that Christian education is not a commodity. It’s a ministry. It’s a commitment. It’s a connection – a connection between your child’s needs and your family philosophy and our philosophy. That’s why at HCS, the first and most important consideration is what is best educationally for your child. All other considerations are secondary.
But money IS important, and tuition is an investment into the life of your child. That’s why Hillcrest has one of the most robust needs-based scholarship programs in our area to assist families who demonstrate a financial need through our FACTS process.
FACTS is an on-line, 3rd party vendor that is highly confidential. Their goal is to assist in determining a financial need for our current and new families. Our Admissions Team will be glad to fill you in with all the details and answer any questions you have about tuition and financial aid. Our goal is that money will not stand in the way for qualified families
For current tuition rates, please call the school office (805) 497-7501 Ext. 204 to schedule an Educational Success Consultation.
Qualifying families receive up to $200,000 in financial aid each year to attend Hillcrest Christian School. We provide financial aid and scholarships through our school and church funded programs. To learn more about our financial aid and scholarship options, please contact us. 805-497-7501 Ext. 204.
Tuition Insurance is available for those families who pay-in-full prior to July 1 or at registration; tuition insurance is required for any family using a deferred payment plan. The insurance program, underwritten by A.W.G. Dewar, will pay benefits should the student need to withdraw during the school year, thus assisting the family with meeting its contractual obligation. Benefits are payable under a variety of circumstances, including medical withdrawal, family relocation, change in employment status, voluntary transfer to another school, academic or disciplinary dismissal, etc. See the Registrar for a brochure on the specific benefits or for claim forms.

One of the most gut-wrenching decisions you as a parent may have to make is to move your child from one school to another during the course of a school year. Whether across town, or across the country, this important decision can be gut-wrenching for you, and life-changing for your child.
At Hillcrest Christian School, we’re here to help. All our teachers are ministry-minded. We provide carefully differentiated instruction with smaller class size. Students and teachers alike describe Hillcrest as caring, safe, peaceful, and nurturing. In a Christian environment, our students tend to be more welcoming of new classmates.
All transitions can be somewhat challenging. Much depends on the effort and attitude of the student. We help all students become a part of the Hillcrest Christian family and to succeed in all areas of student life by pre-enrollment testing to determine proper academic placements, by assigning each new student a “buddy” to partner with and new student counseling.
Cutting-edge technology is part of our overall pedagogy, but Christian character and key skills such as self-control and leadership are integral to our program.
Hillcrest Christian school accepts transfer students at all grade levels at any point during the school year. We work with each family to identify the transition timing and classroom environment that is best for the student.
Attend a Free Educational Success Consultation and share the educational goals you have for your student with one of our administrators.
Potential students are invited to schedule a shadow day in the same grade in order to get a feel for what Hillcrest Christian School will be like. They will have the opportunity to meet faculty and current students while getting a taste of the fantastic classroom environment and various opportunities beyond our core classes.

Q. How is HCS unique among other choices of Christian schools? A. Hillcrest’s uniqueness centers on several simple characteristics that have proven to serve our students and families well, since 1977. HCS’s mission statement is clear that the school is established to serve Christian families. Each student must have at least one parent that is a professing Christian. Families must exhibit a commitment a local church body of believers. This school-wide church background lays the foundation for a more unified approach as home and school partner together in the processes of child rearing and education. One component of this approach includes teaching from a Biblical worldview. We intentionally maintain a small-school environment that provides more personal attention as well as support for families. In addition to a small-school environment, class sizes are small to better assure adequate attention for each student. Academically, HCS provides an excellent academic program as indicated by historically outstanding college entrance test scores, an extensive list of colleges that HCS students are accepted into, and school-wide standardized achievement test results. Further, volunteerism or family involvement is extensive at HCS which research indicates is best for student success in school.
Q. What is accreditation and is HCS an accredited institution? A. Accreditation is essentially a self-study completed by the school with an outside group of experts or accreditation team members visiting the school and evaluating based on their observations and the self-study, with a standard set of criteria for evaluation. HCS (preschool through high school is accredited by WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) and by ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International).

Q. Will my child be able to get into the college of his/her choice? A.The academic program provided for HCS students allows our graduates to enter prestigious universities throughout our country. Students who have followed our program requirements have been very successful in gaining acceptance into the college of their choice.
Q. Do I have to be a Christian? Does our family need to go to church to attend HCS? A. Being a Christian is the goal for students who attend HCS. Our administration understands that developmentally, especially at younger ages, students may not have yet made a commitment to Jesus Christ. Older students will be asked to share who Jesus is and if they have made a commitment to Him. We do require that at least one parent be a committed Christian with regular church attendance. We desire that each family have a home church in which they are committed to attending, to learn, and to serve. HCS believes that the best environment for raising children is through the combined unity of home, church, and school.
