Hi Everyone!
My name is Carolyn Krause. For over seventeen years, I have served HCS as a middle and high school English and history teacher, among other roles. I am passionate about building relationships with my students as well as teaching them. I firmly believe, “No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” While I expect excellence, I also encourage enthusiasm. Motivating students to think critically, write constructively, and read voraciously are my goals; however, inspiring them to use their gifts to serve God above all is my greatest delight. Blue and gold runs through my veins as a UCLA graduate. Additionally, I earned a Master’s degree from Pepperdine University. This year, I will celebrate forty-two years of marriage to my amazing husband, Steve, as well as the marriages of our two daughters and birth of my son’s baby-my first grandchild! My hobby, working as a flight attendant for Southwest Airlines which I began at the age of sixty, is bringing a sense of fun and safety to my customers across our beloved country. I love serving our Lord, and I look forward to humbly shining His light in my English 7, English and History 8, and American Literature CP classes during the 2021-2022 school year! I will also act as Secondary English Chair and Academic Dean of Students. While I change my favorite Bible verse all the time, I hope to bring Colosians 3:23, “ Whatever you do, work at it with all of your heart, as working for the Lord…” into my class daily |

The Hillcrest English department provides a comprehensive program in writing, literature, grammar, and vocabulary. Opportunities for both academic and creative writing provide students with the experience needed to find their personal voice and develop their skills in analysis, argumentation, and research. Our graduates are routinely recognized by their college professors as skilled writers with the ability to communicate far beyond the level of their peers. Literature studies include a focus on Shakespeare and the classics with particular emphasis on close reading, analysis, and biblical worldview. Grammar skills include the use of language conventions and the identification of parts of speech, parts of the sentence, verb tense and voice, phrases, and clauses. Vocabulary studies provide background on academic language commonly found on the SAT and ACT exams along with instruction on and practice with related skills. Our students graduate with confidence knowing they are fully prepared for the university of their choice. |
