Favorite verse: Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:1-2
Education Background: I was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with a minor in Biblical Studies from Moody Bible Institute and a Master of Arts in English with an emphasis on Education from Grand Canyon University. Educational Experience: During my final year at Moody Bible Institute, I taught kindergarten and first grade at Prodigy Leadership Academy in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The following year, I joined HCS as a 5th-grade humanities teacher. It was here that I discovered my passion for reading and writing education, prompting me to pursue a Master's degree in English. Shortly after I finished the program, I was offered to teach 7th, 9th, and 12th grades at HCS. Now, I’m honored to continue teaching secondary students at Hillcrest and offer the APU Dual Enrollment course in Writing 110, providing students with an advanced opportunity to develop their writing skills. All About Me: Though I had always called myself a Christian, I became a devoted follower of Christ at sixteen while on a mission trip in the Dominican Republic, where I first felt His call to pursue a career in education. This led me to work as an assistant teacher, nanny, and tutor throughout high school and college. While in college, I met and married my husband, Josiah Thompson. Together, we’ve lived in three states across the U.S. and are now settled in Ventura County, embracing our mission in daily life. |

The Hillcrest English department provides a comprehensive program in writing, literature, grammar, and vocabulary. Opportunities for both academic and creative writing provide students with the experience needed to find their personal voice and develop their skills in analysis, argumentation, and research. Our graduates are routinely recognized by their college professors as skilled writers with the ability to communicate far beyond the level of their peers. Literature studies include a focus on Shakespeare and the classics with particular emphasis on close reading, analysis, and biblical worldview. Grammar skills include the use of language conventions and the identification of parts of speech, parts of the sentence, verb tense and voice, phrases, and clauses. Vocabulary studies provide background on academic language commonly found on the SAT and ACT exams along with instruction on and practice with related skills. Our students graduate with confidence knowing they are fully prepared for the university of their choice.
