Welcome to the Fifth Grade!
I am Mrs. De La Rosa and I am one of the 5th grade teachers here at Hillcrest. I also serve as the Upper Elementary Lead. I graduated from Northridge University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies. I have a California Multiple Subject Credential for Elementary Education as well as a Single Subject Science credential for Secondary. I am married and we have 3 grown children. We also have 2 beautiful granddaughters who come to visit often. I am excited to be your teacher. This will be a wonderful year of taking charge of your learning as you become an independent learner and develop successful study habits that will serve you well throughout your schooling career. The fifth grade incorporates a number of amazing novel studies in historical settings. We also have the opportunity to experience hands-on science experiments and investigations throughout our year. We tie every subject to the Bible as our source of truth. Some of our field trips include an on campus Walk Through of the American Revolution experience, a trip to the Reagan Library, and an overnight trip to Riley’s Farm to experience a time set in the American Revolution. Fifth grade takes all the foundational work students have completed previously and solidifies it into independent thinking. The 5th grade is a wonderful year of learning and discovery. Welcome! |

Fifth grade is a transitional year for our students as they learn to apply executive function skills to their learning experience. During this year, students learn how to apply information learned to their lives using higher level thinking processes. Our fifth grade program is designed to allow students to apply Biblical principles learned to their lives on a daily basis. During the fifth grade year we will focus on how to learn and apply information learned. Students strive for academic excellence in all subjects in addition to expanding their spiritual development. Fifth grade field trips include an “in school” Walk Through the American Revolution experience, visit to the Reagan Library, and exploration of the historic Stagecoach Inn Museum. Students culminate the year with an overnight field trip to Riley’s Farm for an American Revolutionary War experience. These trips integrate the Social Studies curriculum covered throughout the year. These opportunities are a wonderful transition as the fifth grade prepares students for more independence in their academics and spiritual growth.
