Favorite Verse: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
Educational Background: I received my undergraduate degree from Azusa Pacific University with a BA in Education. I continued on to complete my Master’s Degree and credential and was awarded an MA in Education, Teaching. Educational Experience: In 2004, I joined HCS as the school librarian. In the subsequent year, I transitioned to teaching first grade. Throughout the next 17 years, my teaching experience encompassed various roles such as Special Education preschool, Creative Writing, and fourth grade. The majority of my time was dedicated to teaching middle school and high school students in an alternative setting. All About Me: I have a long history with HCS, dating back to my early childhood. My family and I were part of the Hillcrest community when it was still a church, and I attended the school from preschool until 9th grade. Coming back to teach here feels like returning home. I have been married to my husband for nearly 15 years, and we are blessed with three amazing children who are all students at Hillcrest. We recently moved to the Conejo Valley after living in the Eastern Sierra for 14 years. Spending quality time with my family, going to the beach, and integrating Jesus into my daily life are activities that bring me joy, both at home and in my professional life. |

First grade is filled with many milestones and Hillcrest Christian School is the perfect place to be sure your child meets and surpasses them all. We are a school known for its high academic standards and our first grade program is designed to develop strong readers and writers. As your child is developing their reading skills, we introduce the Writer’s Workshop, which allows your child to express themselves through the written word and publish their very own book! At the same time, we are committed to laying a firm foundation in mathematics and science through daily hands on learning activities and assessments. Most importantly, first grade is presented through a Christian worldview so that your child may begin to develop an understanding of the God of the Bible and learn that His desire is to have a meaningful, loving relationship with them through Jesus Christ. As we study the Bible, we will be learning about God’s character and what it means to walk with Him and live in fellowship with Him through the Holy Spirit. Activities throughout the year include: a visit from the K-9 Police, a wedding for the letters Q & U, special guests reading their favorite stories, Grandparents day, Dr. Seuss Week, class parties celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine’s, 100th day of School, St. Patrick’s Day & Easter; weekly chapels, Bible buddies with 4th grade and family groups with all ages Field trips include: the pumpkin patch, the Santa Barbara Zoo, the planetarium, whale watching and visiting a vet hospital
