Favorite verse: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” -Jesus, Matthew 11:28-30
Educational Background: I earned a BA in English from the University of Hawaii and then relocated to St. Louis, Missouri to train for two and a half years as a full-time ministry intern. After working for several years as campus minister for a local church in Santa Barbara, California, I returned to college and earned my California Teaching Credential and an MA in Education from Chapman University. Educational Experience: I began my service in the classroom at a public high school in Bellevue, Washington, where I worked for two years as a special education assistant. After earning my teaching credential here in California, I taught fifth and sixth grade for two years in the Santa Barbara School District before discovering my niche in private Christian education at Santa Barbara Christian School, where I served as a sixth grade teacher for one year. In 2002, the Lord brought me to Oaks Christian School in Westlake Village, where I served as a middle school teacher for the next fifteen years. While at Oaks, I taught Ancient History, Bible, Worship Band, and partnered with two colleagues in leading educational trips to Europe. In 2017, I returned to Santa Barbara to serve at Providence school, where for three years I taught middle school English, World History, Bible and Latin. Most recently, the Lord has brought me to Hillcrest Christian School, where, since 2020, I’ve taught Bible and World History to both middle school and high school students. All About Me: It’s been my joy to be married to my wife, Angelika, since 1992. We have two adult sons, Zion and Cedar, of whom we are very proud. I take delight in doing life with Jesus, spending time with loved ones, surfing, swimming, hiking, camping, traveling abroad, reading thoughtful books, having deep conversations, eating healthy foods, making music on my guitar and mentoring young people. |
History ProgramTeacher(s): Cord Christensen
The History Department at Hillcrest introduces students to the study of the past so that, by better understanding the world in which they live, they will be better prepared to live wisely, compassionately and intentionally as God’s image-bearers during their own unique season within it. In addition, as they engage firsthand with the rich tapestry of people, events and ideas throughout the ages, students will be challenged to become more thoughtful readers, more careful listeners, more discerning thinkers and more effective communicators. Bible ProgramTeacher(s): Cord Christensen & Suzanne Hume
The Hillcrest Christian School Bible department has an extensive biblical studies program. Our students will learn how to apply the Bible in today’s world. Our Bible teachers make the Bible experience relevant, applicable and meaningful for students. Students will gain biblical knowledge & understanding of Biblical figures, historical events, themes of the Old & New Testament and life lessons from the Word of God, especially from the teachings of Jesus Christ. Students will ensure the Word of God goes beyond knowledge as they undertake the spiritual discipline of Bible memorization to allow God's Word to penetrate the heart. Students will also engage in service experiences to bring their knowledge of the Bible into practical everyday life. By the time our students graduate from Hillcrest Christian School they will have a thorough comprehension and understanding of the Old and New Testament of Scripture. Students will also be able to understand what it means to live an abundant life in Jesus Christ as a Christian & learn the spiritual disciplines necessary to live out a healthy and vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ. |
